Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Sunday 30.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 29. January 2022

Mountain weather

Saturday 29. January 2022

50 mm precipitation, up to 80 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1300 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 30. January 2022

4 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l Sunday night. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -14 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
